Austrian Winter Pea. 

Will produce an abundance of high protein forage. Cold tolerant, easily grown as a long lasting fall crop, and will out compete most weeds. Likes moist clay soil.  Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 60-80#/acre (~1.5#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Fall

Birdsfoot Trefoil:

 A perennial legume that is an excellent choice for permanent pasture. Slow establishment but strong once established. Will tolerate heavy, poorly drained soils with low ph. Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 8-10#/acre(~.25#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring/Fall

Buck Forage Oats: 

A proprietary variety of forage oats made to be cold tolerant and very palatable to deer. Are slow growing, have a high sugar content, and will persist long into the fall. Maintenance Fertilizer: 17-17-17 Seeding Rate: 100#/acre (~2.25#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Fall 

Buckwheat: 

An annual grain used as specialty food for humans and livestock and as a cover for wildlife. Very sensitive to frost and hot, dry weather. Maintenance Fertilizer: 17-17-17 Seeding Rate: 40-55#/acre (~1.25#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring/Fall

Chicory 

Perennial taproot herb that is drought resistant and mineral rich. Produces abundant high protein leafy forage. Cool season plant. Maintenance Fertilizer: 17-17-17 Seeding Rate acre (~.25#/1500 sq ft)

Cleaned Oats: 

An uncertified annual grain which can be used as a cover crop for slower establishing crops or turf. Germinates very rapidly and is useful for slopes to prevent washout. Used as green manure also.Maintenance Fertilizer: 17-17-17 Seeding Rate for cover over turf: 50#/acre (~1#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring/Summer/Fall

Eagle Manager’s

Mix RR Soybean. Blend of soybeans that include both climbing, forage types and tall varieties that can grow 3-5 ft. tall. Different maturity times to allow for optimal feeding. Seed should be covered and packed by soil. Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 1 bag/acre (~1#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring

Field Mix Plus. 

Performs best in sunny, well drained areas, although it is more tolerant of wet and acidic soil than alfalfa. It is designed to attract wildlife all season long, although it will need to be mowed if planted in the spring to prevent the rape seed from going to seed and to encourage new growth. Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 10-20#/acre (~.5#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring/Fall

Field Pumpkins. 

Produces large fruit that can be 10-14” inches in diameter and up to 25 lbs. Can be grown anywhere and is excellent for feeding wildlife, making pies, or for Jack-O-Lanterns. Plant 1.5 inches deep. Maintenance Fertilizer: 17-17-17 Seeding Rate: 3#/acre (~.1#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring

Fodder Beets: 

Very similar to a sugar beet but with a better root yield. Drought tolerant. Leaves are nutritious and the root is sweet and palatable. Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 15#/acre (~.25#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring

Forage Radish. 

Quick growing with early forage growth that provides high protein. Root provides a resource of food through most snow levels. Breaks up hard soils. Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 6-10#/acre (~.25#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Fall

Kale. 

A member of the brassica family producing dark green, leafy leaves. A high source of protein with a high tolerance for cold.  The leaves will sweeten with the first hard frost. Maintenance Fertilizer: 17-17-17 Seeding Rate: 4-8 lbs/acre (~.25/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring/Fall

Ladino Clover: 

A tall, white-flowering perennial clover that tolerates wet, acidic soil. Very high in protein and should only be used in mixes as it may increase bloat hazard. Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 6-10#/acre (~.25#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring/Fall

Mammoth Greystripe Sunflower. A very tall plant with stalks up to 12’ and flowers from 6-15” in diameter. Can thrive in poor soil and are drought tolerant. Plant no deeper than 1.5 inches. Maintenance Fertilizer: 17-17-17 Seeding Rate: 5#/acre (~.15#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring

Medium Red Clover.

 Grows on wetter, more acidic soil than alfalfa and is a better choice for cropland where alfalfa production is questionable. Taller growth habit.Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 8-12#/acre (~.25#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring/Fall

RR Field Corn:

RR Soybeans:

Rutabaga. 

A long season brassica originating from the crossing of turnip with cabbage. Produces a larger root than turnip. Deer will eat the top growth in late fall and dig for the root in winter. Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 5-7#/acre (~.25#/1500) Planting Time: Spring/Fall

Sorghum

A tall plant similar to corn that provides a seed head at the top. Useful for pheasants and other game birds for food and cover. Maintenance Fertilizer: 17-17-17 Seeding Rate: 15#/acre (~.5#/1500 sq ft) Planting Time: Late Spring

Sugar Beets.  

Grows slowly and produces a very large sugary taproot. Sugar content can be as high as 18% which deer love. Needs good soil with limited nitrogen to allow adequate root growth. Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 5-7#/acre (~.25#/1500 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring/Fall

Trail Mix. 

An all perennial mix of clovers and grasses. Shade tolerant and will handle wetter, more acidic soil. Its short growth habit makes it perform particularly well on logging trails and under power lines or anywhere mowing is impractical. Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 10-20#/acre (~.5#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring/Summer/Fall

Turnip.

A short-season brassica that produces significant root growth as well as succulent top growth. Deer will eat the top growth in late fall and dig for the root in the winter. Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 6-8#/acre (~.25#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Fall

White Dutch Clover.

A very short, white-flowering clover found in lawns and wooded areas. Tolerates acidic soil and low fertility. Very useful for trail and fringe areas. Maintenance Fertilizer: 6-24-24 Seeding Rate: 7-10#/acre (~.25#/1000 sq ft) Planting Time: Spring/Fall
